In our public services class with Mr Hooper we are planning a sports relief challenge, which consists of a 12 hour run, using the Treadmill, cross-trainer and the static bike. We are starting at 5am and finishing at exactly 5pm.
During this lesson (22nd February) we spoke about different tasks that we had to do, working in pairs or threes. One pair had to email the whole school telling them about our sport relief challenge, also emailing the sports centre manager, head of the P.E department, deputy headteacher and the headteacher to see if it is alright to go ahead with the challenge. Another pair had to make a facebook page to make our challenge more aware outside of school. Another pair is organising a school assembly, talking about what we are doing and how everyone can help. Me and George had to design a poster to put up around the school, emailing the caretaker asking him to print us off some A4 and A3 copies, also we have to get some charity buckets and ask an art teacher if its possible for them and a class to make a banner for us.
Lesson 2
Today we started our training for our 12 hour sport relief challenge, Mr Hooper marks us on everything we do, how much effort we put in, did we arrive on time and are we wearing the correct kit. Today i put in lots of effort on the cross-trainer this due to me being on time and having the correct kit, i did struggle a lot because of my fitness. It also enabled me to complete the 30 minutes of running. On the cross-trainer we are suppose to do 60rpm but i was doing more at times, working at 70 - 75 rpm.
Lesson 3
Today we started our planning for our sports relief challenge, we began emailing various teachers and sports centre management to help us with our challenge. We also designed the posters we are going to put up around the school and planning our school assembly. I also arrived on time to this lesson, so i was able to gain all the information about what was needed to know.
Lesson 4
We started our second training session at lunchtime, i arrived on time and wore the correct kit. This enabled me to complete the training session on time and with no problems due to me being on time and wearing the correct kit. Today i was on the treadmill, i found this more difficult than the cross trainer, again our training session was half hour. Again i struggled with this training because it was only my second time doing this, but as the training sessions go on but i can see myself getting fitter and fitter ready for the big day.
Banner
In this lesson we had to go and find out from the design teacher if she could help us with making a banner for our sport relief challenge. We also went and seen the graphics manager so he could laminate our posters that we are to put up around the school. The art and design teacher said she would have a banner done for us in time for the run.
Today me, george and ashley had to design and make the banner with our art teacher. Our banner said 'CULVERHAY SPORT RELIEF 2012', on our first attempt of making the banner we went abit wrong so we quickly began working on the second one. I felt that was a good attitude to have, because we could have given up. After our banner had finished it surprisingly looked really good and stood out a lot. With the colours of each word going black, red, black, red. The 'O' on SPORT was filled in with sport relief logo and there was also another sport relief logo on the end of our banner.
Lesson 6
Today we had a double training session, we had a training session at 11, i arrived on time, in the correct kit and went on the treadmill. I thought by going on the treadmill first it would be easier for me to go on the cross trainer in the second session. But either way, it would have been just as equally hard. Our second session was at lunch an hour and a half later. This time i was on the cross trainer, again i arrived on time, in the correct and showed a good attitude. Doing more sessions in a day is a good way of getting ready for our big event in a 2 weeks time because we are going to be running for half hour then have an hours break then back on it again. We will doing this 8 times all together, 23 miles each averaging.
10 running session in a week.
Our challenge this week to complete 10 running challenges in a week, i had to work out a time plan of when i could do these runs because of clashing with lessons. The plan worked perfectly, i felt fresh after starting each run, i did 2 runs a day during our school week. It was a hard week because of how many runs we had to do, i had to keep motivating myself to keep on track for completing my 10 runs in 5 days.
Assembly
Today we had to do a couple of runs and do an assembly, after our runs a few of us had a shower so that we would be fresh for the assembly. I felt i dressed accordingly, wearing black shoes, black trousers and a smart shirt. A couple of my class mates took the assembly and 1 person rode the static bike whilst my class mates were taking the assembly to give the pupils an idea of what we are doing for 12 hours. I felt my presentation was good, punctuality (turning up on time for both Assemblies), reliability and attendance. But i do feel that i could have contribute more to the assembly by saying something or riding the static bike for a period of time.
Day of the run
Up bright and early at 3:30 am to get into school by 4:45 am. As soon as we all got into the hall we had to put the sport relief posters up around the whole of the gym to try and get people involved. We were put into 3 separate groups so we could rotate and have an hours rest each time, my group was on first..... Surprisingly i was raring to go and up for the challenge. I started off on the cross-trainer which i found easy to start with, as the day went on and i started to feel tired and ill, but i thought to myself i have to keep going because i was desperate to complete the challenge. At lunch pupils from all years came into the gym and paid 50p for 5 minutes to go on the static bike, me and a few others went around the school with buckets and started asking people to donate to charity... Lots of people were being generous, putting £1 coins in, £2 coins, a few teachers put in £5 pound notes and one teacher even put in a £10 pound note. Every now and then i would go into the weights room were people were running to give my motivation and support to people because it looked like a few people were starting to tire towards the end. My 8th and final challenge was the static bike, this challenge is more to to with your quadriceps and hamstrings then your cardio fitness i found. My legs started to burn near the end but i knew i was close to the end and had to keep going. The relief when i had finished was immense but i was also happy that i had completed the challenge. Overall, each of us ran around 23 miles which i never thought id be able to do.
I felt that my attitude contributed a lot throughout the training sessions and the actual run itself. I didn't moan, i motivated my class mates. I felt my punctuality has got better after this event, I'm on time for more things, such as lessons, tutor, completing work on time.I felt i dressed accordingly, wearing the correct kit when doing my training sessions. Over my attendance was great, turned up for every classroom lesson, every training session and most importantly the sport relief event itself.

ReplyDeleteYou have made a reasonable start on your diary but to gain a distinction you need to complete the final few sessions we completed as well as a description of the day itself. You also need to add the photo's, posters, powerpoint presentations from assemblies and anything else that may add value.
